WINDOWS 98 VIRTUALBOX DRIVERS INSTALL
To install ISO Master type sudo apt-get install isomaster or you can download and install it hereįor Windows users I don't know of any free ISO Editors but you can buy Magic ISO Maker or you may be able to get away with just using the trial version of it which can be gotten here. For debian based Linux users I would recomend ISO Master. If your using Debian based Linux System such as Ubuntu you may want to add the PEUL repo for VirtualBox and install using apt-get. You can get it from (Try not to use the OSE versions)ĭirect download link for VirtualBox for Windows user can be found hereĭirect download link for Apple users can be found here Next we will get the latest version of VirtualBox. If your using Debian based Linux System you can download it and install it by typing sudo apt-get install k3b
WINDOWS 98 VIRTUALBOX DRIVERS DRIVERS
Here is the direct Download Link for the drivers But I will assume your using VBEMP drivers. You can get them at or you can make your own drivers like I did. I would recomend the VBEMP drivers by Bear Windows. And we will fire up our web browser and download the custom video drivers. Lets get our Windows 98 CD and place it on the geek table. We will first gather everything we will need. We will restart and we should be ready. Then We will configure the custom video drivers. After that we will install the custom video drivers. After the installation we will navigate into the C drive of the VM and copy all of the contents of the modified ISO image into a directory in the C Drive.Next we will install the modified Windows 98 ISO image onto the VM.(Change the sound to be SoundBlaster 16bit audio, Change the Network Adapter to PCnet-PCI 2) After the VM has been made we will want to change some of the default settings of it.We will need to make Windows 98 Virtual Machine with Virtual Box (Windows 98 doesn't support large HDD's so made a Dynamically Expanding VM that was 4GB in size). We will need to download and install the Latest Version of VirtualBox.Next we will need to modify the ISO image and add custom Video Drivers to the ISO image.I was using Linux so used K3B to do this. Make an ISO image of the Windows 98 CD.So what we will need to do a stable install of Windows 98 inside of VirtualBox is the following.

And since Windows 9.x Systems use Fat Filesystems you won't be able to use them. Lastly the VBox Guest Additions don't work in a FAT FS. Windows 98 doesn't support RAM that is higher then 512MB. So yes you will be able to install Windows 98 inside of VirtualBox without ACPI support but it will be extremely slow. Because of this if you do default install of Windows 98 it wont use ACPI support. Windows 98 supports this but has trouble reconizing VirtualBox's Emulated BIOS. VirtualBox requires OSes that support ACPI support. Windows 98 will install as Guest inside of VirtualBox with only 256 Color Resolution but it will keep crashing. Windows 98 only runs in 256 High Color Resulutions. VirtualBox requires OSes to run in 32bit True Color Resulution. However VirtualBox has issues with certain OSes. Yeah you can install pretty much any OS as Guest inside of VirtualBox. But how am I going to get Windows 98 to work on an Apple. This is good for me since I hate to pirate crap.

I also had some of the original games that would work on it. In fact I still have the orginal CD's for Win98, Win98SE and of course Win95. And I use PC's that have modern hardware that don't support M$ Winblows 98. Okay so my brother wanted to play some of those old Windows Games that where made for Microsucks Winblows 98.
